One of the ancient cocktails, the name comes from Arabic ‘julab’ meaning rose water, it has a reputation of being used a medicine.

The archetypal drink of the southern states, earliest written record is 1803 in Virginia, suggests it was taken in the morning, also famously during the Kentucky Derby. Originally made with either whiskey, brandy, or rum, but by 1900 whiskey was the standard spirit used.

MAKES 1 DRINK                               METHOD: Built


8 to 10  Mint Leaves 

60ml  Bourbon 

15ml  Sugar syrup (1:1)

GLASSWARE: Julep Tin / Tumbler           GARNISH: Mint Sprig


Step 1 – Clap/slap or lightly tear the mint leaves to release some of their aromatics and drop them into the Julep Tin or Tumbler

Step 2 – Add all other ingredients and crushed ice and stir

Step 3 – Add more crushed ice as required and continue stirring to mix and dilute the drink

Step 4 – Add a cap of crushed ice for appearance if required and garnish with a mint sprig for aroma

Faulty products

For products purchased from Drinks Network that may be faulty, damaged (excluding damage caused by misuse), wrongly described or require recall, we will cheerfully refund your money, exchange or, where possible, repair or replace the product. 

For some high value products, Drinks Network reserves the right to have the product assessed for acceptable quality prior to discussing a suitable remedy with you. 

For products that cannot be assessed via conference call, we will arrange for the product to be sent to the manufacturer (or relevant agent) for assessment. It may be more convenient for you to liaise with the Vendor directly (which may be more time efficient) and can be achieved via Chat on our site. You certainly have that option. Our WeCare Support Team is happy to provide you with their relevant contact details to assist you.

We will ask you for valid proof of purchase when returning a faulty product. We will require the email address that you utilised for your purchase transaction. Some examples of acceptable proof of purchase are your original receipt, tax invoice, a credit card statement clearly showing your purchase at Drinks Network’s or your Drinks Network account statement which can be found in the My Purchases section in your account.

What we stand for?

If your purchase incurred a delivery fee, then we will also happily cover the cost of delivery for the return of a faulty product. We unfortunately do not provide refunds or returns for change of mind purchases.

Our products come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
